Curtains in Ilford
Curtains in Ilford are cleaned hanging on the rail where the fabric allows, so there is no taking down, no re-hanging and no risk of a header tape shrinking in a machine.
Prices
Short drop £35 per pair, long drop £42. Nets and voiles are usually better machine washed at home, and we will say so.
What we check first
Lined and interlined curtains, silk, and anything with water marks already in the fabric get a test on the hem. Heavy interlined curtains sometimes belong with a dry cleaner rather than us, and we would rather send you there than leave a watermark at eye level.
What to expect
Dust, smoke and cooking film come out and colours lift noticeably. Sun bleaching along the leading edge is permanent.
Mandatory and additional HMO licensing apply borough-wide on top of that, which means shared houses with three or four occupants also need licensing and inspection-ready communal areas.
Often booked with the carpets in the same visit.
Questions we get asked
Do the curtains have to come down?
No. We clean them hanging on the rail wherever the fabric allows it, so no header tape gets pulled and nothing needs re-hanging afterwards. That matters most with long heavy pairs that took somebody an afternoon to dress properly. Short drop is £35 a pair, long drop £42.
Will they shrink?
Not cleaned on the rail. The fabric never gets soaked and it dries hanging under its own weight. Shrinkage is a washing machine problem, which is why we say no to nets and voiles and send you off to do those at home at 30 degrees. Lined and interlined pairs get a hem test first, always.
The kitchen curtains have gone yellow. Is that grease?
Usually cooking film and smoke together, and that does come out. Yellowing along the leading edge is sunlight, and that does not, because the dye has gone rather than been covered over. Open a pleat and look inside the fold. If the hidden face is a different colour from the front, it is sun damage.
Can you do the blinds while you are here?
Roman blinds in fabric, usually, and we will look at them while the kit is out. Vertical and venetian blinds are a wipe down with warm water and a cloth, which you can do yourself in half an hour. Paying us for that would be a waste of your money and we would rather say so.
